Our final Enhancement Day of the academic year went beautifully yesterday, with Year 9 students taking part in sessions based on the option preferences they selected in March. Some were creating wind buggies and skate parks in Technology, while others were with the Humanities departments (History, Geography and RS) in the Country Park.
Year 8 had sessions with Turning Point Suffolk Drugs and Alcohol Support Service, cancer awareness sessions with Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund, Wild Reading with the English Department, and a session on democracy and election processes with two returning students who were members of our Ethics Committee and Peer Mentors. They ended the day with the PE Department for some sports and games.
Year 7 learnt about the different choices available to them on their educational journeys from the Eastern Education Group, the concept of Joint Enterprise with Suffolk Constabulary, e-safety with our Computer Science Department, and the Day of the Dead with our Languages Department. They ended the day by participating in a competition to create our new school safeguarding poster.
We also held some small-group sessions for Years 7 and 8 with our School Nurses to support their understanding of RSE and wellbeing.
We are very grateful to all our external providers and our own staff for running and supporting these sessions. We are pleased that our students took the opportunity to make the most of the day, particularly in the hot weather!
