Stour Valley Community School are working with Clare Town Council to improve leisure opportunities for young people living in the town.
One of the issues identified by the initiative is a lack of places for young people to socialise and carry out activities. This has led to the need for many of them to travel to other local towns in order to participate in organised youth organisations, play sport or do other activities.
Following an initial survey of parents and students at Stour Valley Community School year 11 students James and Maisie have been invited to join the initiative and to give their views on behalf of the young people of Clare. They have joined meetings at the school, along with Assistant Headteacher Nathan Sims, and given valuable opinions on what is currently available as well as what they feel would be popular activities and events which could be planned for the future and are actively involved in developing solutions.
Town Council member Murray Stroud said ‘The collaboration with Stour Valley Community School has been invaluable in identifying the activities and facilities the young people of Clare would like to enjoy in their leisure time, we are particularly grateful to Nathan, James and Maisie for welcoming us to the school and for their much appreciated help.’
