Students and staff from Stour Valley Community School have returned from a highly successful ski trip in Austria, demonstrating the school’s values: being kind, brave, ambitious and working collaboratively throughout the experience.
The visit began with students travelling overseas in high spirits, ready to embrace a new challenge. After settling in, pupils were introduced to their equipment and instructors before taking to the slopes for the first time. For many, skiing was entirely new, and stepping onto the snow required real bravery. Students rose to the challenge with enthusiasm and determination, supporting one another from the outset.
As the week progressed, confidence and ambition grew across all groups. Students worked hard to develop their skills, moving from tentative first attempts to confidently navigating the slopes. Instructors praised the pupils for their focus, resilience and positive mindset, while accompanying staff highlighted the kindness and respect students showed towards both peers and staff throughout the trip.
Beyond the technical skills learned on the slopes, the experience provided valuable opportunities for personal growth. Students collaborated effectively, encouraging one another, celebrating shared successes and offering reassurance when challenges arose. This supportive and inclusive atmosphere played a key role in the steady progress seen across the group.
By the final day, the improvement in skiing ability was clear. Students made the most of their last opportunity on the slopes, showing pride in their achievements and ambition to push themselves further. Instructors commented on the impressive development demonstrated by students at all ability levels.
The trip concluded with recognition of individual and group achievements, including awards celebrating commitment, consistency, helpfulness and teamwork. Parents and carers expressed their appreciation to staff for organising and supervising the visit, while students returned home with new skills, increased confidence and memories that will last well beyond the school year.
The ski trip was widely regarded as a resounding success and a powerful example of how outdoor learning experiences allow students to live out the Stour Valley values of kindness, bravery, ambition and collaboration in a real‑world setting.
