Three days in June saw 83 Year 7 students embark on the yearly Thriftwood residential visit. The weather may have been rather wet, but the students did not let this dampen their spirits. Throughout the three days, students embodied the values of Stour Valley, demonstrating bravery when sleeping in a tent for the first time, or climbing higher than they ever thought they could. Ambition when aiming for the bullseye in both archery and axe throwing, collaboration as they helped to unload the coaches and working as a team to complete their duties. Demonstrating kindness as they supported and encouraged each other when they were tired. Students developed independence and resilience over the course of the three days as they coped with the weather, washed their own plates and bowls and organised themselves during and at the end of camp.
Students thoroughly enjoyed the campfire activities, led by Mr Craig on the final night, which provided many challenges, laughs and even more memories and the cakes provided by Mr Craig's mum were thoroughly well received by students (and staff) earlier on. A huge thank you must go to all the staff that attended (some only getting 3 hours sleep), to the team at Thriftwood Scout Campsite (www.thriftwood.org.uk) for leading all the activities and to Sharron's event catering (sharronseventcatering.co.uk) for providing food over the three days.
A huge amount of fun was had by both students and staff alike, the memories made will last a lifetime.
