This week, Year 8 students had the opportunity to watch London's West End performance of Wicked at the Victoria Apollo Theatre. Earlier in the week, two industry professionals, who are part of the theatre company responsible for the London show, visited our school, and students took part in a singing and dancing workshop. Students learned to perform and sing the song "One Short Day" from Act 1 of the show and we were then able to see the performers use the same choreography as we had learnt in the performance itself. We arrived in time for lunch, the traffic for once being on our side, and so we walked across to Westminster Cathedral where we sat outside and ate our lunch in the sunshine, listening to the organ playing the free lunchtime concert from inside.  After a slight wait to be seated, the show was underway and the pupils had a fantastic time watching the performance and for lots of students, this was their first experience of a London show. A happy mistake on the Theatre’s part meant most of us were handed an unexpected ice cream during the interval (a small triumph considering the confectionary prices) and rather just, we felt, after our wait to get into the auditorium. The journey home saw the students singing at the top of their lungs for two and a half hours, clearly not exhausted by the heat or traveling.

Earlier in the day the students had been tasked with taking photos to document the day with the most artistic photos being presented to parents and carers.

The winners are

Lila P for image 1, Sam P for Image 2 and Ian S for for image 3.
